The Hunting of the Snark, Lewis Carroll with illustrations by Henry Holiday
First edition, first printing, with the misprint of "baker" instead of "butcher on page 83, line 6. London: Macmillan and Co. 1876. Original decorated cloth, all edges gilt, 9 illustrated plates including the frontispiece, lacking tissue guards; pp. [ix], x-xiv, 83, [84-85] + 1 ads. About very good. Light shelfwear with minor discoloration to boards, cloth lifting a bit in places, some loss to the spine crown, hairline tear to cloth along rear board and spine joint, hinges starting but sound. Internally quite clean, with a few thumb smudges and scattered foxing/spotting, bookseller's label to last blank with offsetting to the page opposite. Overall, a presentable copy of Carroll's fantastical nonsense poem, now protected in a removable archival sleeve.
