First state with both the "A" and Scribner's seal to the copyright page, first state jacket with author photo to back panel.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1951. Publisher's original black cloth, spine lettered in gilt; pp. [xii], 861, [1]. A near fine copy in an about near fine, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains tight, sturdy and square, minimal wear to boards, offsetting to endpapers else internally clean. Jacket shows just traces of shelfwear with a bit of toning to back panel and flaps. A very presentable copy, protected in archival mylar.
