Admiral John Jervis (Earl of St. Vincent) Handwritten and Signed Address Panel
A boldly penned free-franked address panel signed “St. Vincent” by John Jervis, 1st Earl of St. Vincent (1735–1823), one of Britain’s most celebrated naval commanders and a central figure in the Royal Navy’s transformation during the Napoleonic era. Jervis’s naval victories—particularly at the Battle of Cape St. Vincent (1797)—were crucial in securing British maritime supremacy. His reforms as First Lord of the Admiralty reshaped the structure and discipline of the Navy, earning him both renown and controversy. Dated London, fourth April 1807, and addressed to Robt. Harvey Esq., Danesott, Lichfield. The panel bears a crisp red circular crown “Free / Apr 4 / 1807” postal stamp and measures approx. 4.75" x 3".
Condition: Very good. Light toning; four adhesive spots and a strip of adhesive residue to verso from prior album mounting. Signature and address are clear and bold. Uncommon in this neat, unclipped format.
