Neatly clipped signature of Admiral Sir Edward Thornbrough, G.C.B. (“Yours most faithfully, Edwd. Thornbrough”), mounted to a slightly larger album leaf with a caption beneath in a neat period hand identifying him as “Admiral Sir Edwd. Thornbrough G.C.B.” Very good condition, light offsetting from mounting, toning, minor glue residue to verso from mounting. Measures approx. 4.5" x 3".
A respected officer in the Royal Navy, Thornbrough (1754–1834) saw service in the American Revolutionary War, French Revolutionary Wars, and Napoleonic Wars. Promoted to admiral in 1810, he later became Commander-in-Chief at Portsmouth and a senior naval advisor to the monarchy.
