Hey Rube, Hunter S. Thompson
First edition, inscribed by Thompson with a large characteristic signature and a cryptic personal message to the second blank. The inscription reads: “To Jennifer — with memories of whiskey wildness & musk (heart drawing) HS Thompson.” Also laid in is a crumpled note, written in Anita Thompson's hand, with her name, Hunter's and their (former) phone number. Published late in Thompson’s career, Hey Rube gathers his final columns written for ESPN between 2000 and 2003. The pieces move freely between sports, politics, and cultural commentary, reflecting Thompson’s enduring gonzo style and his increasingly caustic observations on the American political landscape during the early years of the George W. Bush administration. A fantastic signed and inscribed example of Thompson’s final book published during his lifetime.
New York: Simon & Schuster, 2004. Publisher's original grey paper-covered boards over red spine, lettered in silver; pp. xxi, [1], 246. [1]. A near fine copy in a near fine, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains tight and sturdy, light bumps to spine tips, faint sunning to board edges. Faint thumb smudge to the top left of inscription page, presumably from Hunter holding it open during signing. Jacket shows just traces of shelfwear, protected in archival mylar.
