Moby Dick, Herman Melville, illustrated by Rockwell Kent
First trade edition of Melville's classic novel with Rockwell Kent's striking artistic interpretation. One of the most iconic illustrated books of the twentieth century, Kent's background as a draughtsman and his love of maritime travel and adventure made him particularly well suited to take on the illustrations.
New York: Random House, 1930. Original black boards with silver-stamped titles and design. A very good copy, no jacket. Boards show light shelfwear with fraying to extremities, a bit of loss to spine crown, a few light discolorations to top edge of text block rubbing to rear board. Front hinge cracked at half-title but still secure. Internally clean but for some general toning and foxing. A presentable copy.
