A richly detailed Royal Navy logbook entry, documenting drills, inspections, and disciplinary actions aboard ship under the command of Admiral Richard Howe (later 1st Earl Howe). This entry references Howe being appointed Commander-in-Chief, presumably of the North American Station during the American Revolutionary War, and features approximately two dozen lines in a neat secretarial hand, with Howe’s bold signature at bottom right. Entries describe gunnery exercises ("Exercised Great Guns & small arms"), ship inspections, signal drills, punishment of sailors ("two men for neglect of duty"), and various shipboard operations, concluding with:

"...with small Rain, made the Sigl for all Lieuts, the Boats emptied as before, loos'd sails to dry. Being appointed Commander in Chief of a Squadron of her Majesty's ship destined for a particular service, in the morning removed into (?) one of the ships of that squadron accordingly. / Richd Howe”
