The Hunting of the Snark: An Agony in Eight Fits, Lewis Carroll

First edition, first printing of Carroll's fantastical nonsense poem that "describes with infinite humour the impossible voyage of an improbable crew to find an inconceivable creature." (The Lewis Carroll Handbook). With illustrations by Henry Holiday. 

London: Macmillan and Co., 1876. Publisher's original and unrestored decorated cloth, all edges gilt, 9 illustrated plates with the frontispiece tissue guard; pp. [ix], x-xiv, 83, [2] + [1 ads]. In very good condition. Binding sturdy, light general shelfwear to boards with traces of faint soiling to extremities and a few closed tears along spine joints. Faint owner's inscriptions to front endpaper, else internally clean. A nice copy, protected in a removable archival jacket.
