Tribune Tower Competition
The International Competition for a New Administration Building for the Chicago Tribune
First edition of this noteworthy volume of architectural history, featuring 281 designs that were submitted for the $100,000 competition commemorating the Chicago Tribune's seventy fifth anniversary on June 10, 1922. A fascinating collection of 260 designs for the tower including contributions by Walter Gropius, & Adolf Meyer, Adolf Loos and Bruno Taut, mostly along the lines of a skyscraper but some rather eccentric. The competition was won by John Mead Howells and Raymond M.Hood of New York, with second prize going to Eliel Saarinen of Finland.
