A Fan's Notes, Frederick Exley

First edition, first printing of Exley's first novel and masterpiece, inscribed by the author on the title page: "To Mary Poclar, 7/2/71, Fred Exley, With Thanks." Mary Poclar was Edmund Wilson's helper in upstate N.Y whom he wrote about in Upstate. Exley met her when he traveled back home to write about Wilson in Pages From a Cold Island.

New York: Harper & Row, 1968. Publisher's original purple cloth spine over red boards; pp. 385. An about very good copy in a near fine, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains sturdy with a touch of a lean, light spotting to topstain and foxing to edge of text block, small notch to upper verso of front board. Tape ghosting to boards and pastedowns with adhesive residue to flyleaf, else internally clean. Possible ex-library. Jacket remains bright and vivid with traces of shelfwear, laminate lifting near the bottom of the spine, protected in archival mylar. Presents well.
