Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hunter S. Thompson

Association copy of Thompson's iconic second book and a defining work of gonzo journalism, inscribed by Hunter S. Thompson to musician Jeff “Stick” Davis, bassist of the Amazing Rhythm Aces, with whom Thompson maintained a personal friendship. The inscription, written from Owl Farm and dated “July 27, '99” reads in full:

“To Jeff Davis — a rotten twisted of the oldest & (?) hillbilly root fast almost hillbilly root. Beware —” followed by Thompson’s large signature, dated “Owl Farm / July 27 '99” and with the notation – "Beware."

The volume is accompanied by a signed promotional portrait of Davis, inscribed “All the Best!”, as well as a typed and signed letter on Davis’s letterhead (March 4, 2008), in which he writes:  “Have had this book for 27 years and with the death of Hunter, who I considered a personal friend, I thought it was time to move it on.”  This letter provides direct and compelling provenance, confirming both Davis’s long-term ownership and his personal relationship with Thompson.

New York: Popular Library, 1971 [circa 176]. Publisher's original illustrated wraps; pp. (xii), 208, [4]. In fair to good condion, shelfwear and creasing to wraps, small chip to rear panel, internally toned else clean.
