Hunter S. Thompson – Association Group to Eva Morris
Presentation Copies Inscribed During His Final Interview
A remarkable association group linking Hunter S. Thompson and writer Eva Morris, comprising presentation copies inscribed during the final year of Thompson’s life, along with a signed copy of Morris' book Road Babe.
Eva Morris, a writer of underground and erotic fiction, came to Thompson’s attention through her “Blond Updates from the Open Road” series. In 2004, Thompson personally contacted Morris and invited her to Aspen, commissioning her to interview him. According to Morris, this interview—conducted at Owl Farm—would become the last of his life, preceding his death in February 2005. The present inscriptions, warm and personal in tone, date from the few days they spent together, representing a rare and intimate association at the very end of Thompson’s life and career. The Group includes:
The Rum Diary: The Long Lost Novel. New York: Simon & Schuster, 1998. First edition, first printing. Inscribed by Thompson in red pen on the title page: “To Eva / with love + respect / Hunter,” with a large, energetic signature and drawn heart.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. New York: Warner Books, 1982. Later printing. Inscribed by Thompson to Morris in the same red pen: "To Eva / Girl of dreams – so close, so far. See you soon – maybe naked in the Japanese Tax Office. Love / Hunter," with a heart arrow drawn through his name.
Road Babe! New York: Tiger Publishing, 2001. Later softcover edition. Signed by the Morris to first page.
The Rum Diary is in near fine condition in a very good, unclipped dust jacket showing light general shelfwear and rubbing with a bit of dampstaining to verso. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is in fair condition, heavily worn, presumably read and well-loved. Road Babe is in fine condition. A rare set of presentation copies from Thompson's final year and last interview.
