Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Robert Pirsig
First edition, first printing of Pirsig's best known work and the first in which he explores his metaphysics of Quality and the underlying metaphysics of Western culture. Pirsig received 121 rejections before an editor finally accepted the book for publication—and he did so thinking it would never generate a profit. It was subsequently featured on best-seller lists for decades, with initial sales of at least 5 million copies worldwide.
New York: William Morrow, 1974. Publisher's original black paper-covered boards over cloth spine, lettered in silver; pp. (ii), 412. An about very good copy in a very good, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains tight and sturdy with a light lean and concavity to spine, bump to spine crown, sunning to extremities and some spotting to text block edges. Internally clean. Jacket shows some general shelfwear with chipping to spine ends, minor loss along front flap fold, light staining to back panel. A presentable copy, protected in archival mylar.
