Harold Arlen: Happy with the Blues
Edward Jablonski
First edition, first printing of Jablonski's biography of Harold Arlen, one of America's greatest composers of popular music who composed over 500 songs, notably those for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, including "Over the Rainbow", which won him the Oscar for Best Original Song. He was also nominated as composer for 8 other Oscar awards and is a highly regarded contributor to the Great American Songbook. This copy signed and inscribed by Arlen to Goddard Lieberson and Vera Zorina. Goddard was the president of Columbia Records and is credited with making Columbia a leader in the field of recorded music. He was a champion of modern American music, developed the recordings of Broadway musicals and experimented with literary recordings. Vera, his second wife, was a Norwegian ballerina, theater and film actress, and choreographer. A fantastic association between two titans of American popular music.
