A Review of the Military Operations in North-America, [William Livingston]

Second edition of one of the best accounts of the early years of the French and Indian War, one of the main authorities on the Lake George Campaign and aimed largely at the vindication of the actions of Gen. Shirley (Howes L401). Published the same year as the London first edition, this edition is the first to contain Washington's journal and the additional papers "found in the cabinet of General Braddock." It has been attributed to William Smith (PBSA 44:334), William Livingston Smith, and John Morin Scott (DAB). Streeter notes "considerable attention to inter-colonial politics," and Sabin remarks on charges that Washington assassinated Jumonville (Street 1019, Sabin 41650).

Dublin: Printed for P. Wilson and J. Exshaw, 1757. Contemporary mottle calf, modern spine to match with five raised bands, title label, lettered and decorated in gilt; pp. [ii], 2-276. Boards show light wear and rubbing, bowed outwards, crease from a bend to front board. Faint owner’s name to front pastedown, presumed catalogue number to bottom margin of p. 3, title page toned with faint dampstaining, pages toned with just a handful of instances of foxing or staining. Rare.
