Borderline, Timothy Ely
One-of-a-kind, handmade artist’s book by the world-renowned and enigmatic book artist Timothy Ely. Ely’s books are rare, there is only one of each, and there is nothing quite comparable to them in the art and book worlds today. For over forty years, Ely has created unique works inspired by the mysteries of science and the human imagination. Displaying a reverence for the book as object, his art draws from grids, cipher systems, satellite views of geographic forms and archaeological sites, particularly those with libraries. His signature glyphs, called "cribriform," suggest language but resist translation, embodying a mysterious, expressive quality central to his work. Borderline is from somewhat early in Ely’s career, notable in that is a partner piece, which Ely rarely did, with Borderline 2 currently in the University of Nebraska Special Collections. Signed and dated by Ely to the title page.
