King Kong, Delos W. Lovelace
Rare first edition, first printing of the novelization of one of the great classics of cinema. Published in late 1932, the book was written at the request of producer Merian C. Cooper as a promotional tie-in before the movie's release, thus preceding the appearance of Kong in any other media. A very attractive copy in a remarkably vibrant and unfaded first issue dust jacket, identified by the redundant "by" before Wallace's name on the front panel.
New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1932. Publisher's original green cloth, lettered in brown; pictorial endpapers, pp. (vi), 249, [1]. A very good copy in a very good, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains sturdy and square, minimal shelfwear, typical minor toning to boards, a couple tiny instances of foxing to foredge. Internally clean with no markings. The dust just has benefited from expert repairs and restoration along extremities with careful retouching to spine, all nearly imperceptible to the eye. Light horizontal crease to back panel. Overall, a very presentable copy with a bright and very attractive dust jacket. Housed in a custom drop-back box.
