First edition, first printing of "the first serious Barnes book," a collection of sketches, short stories, poetry and plays. Laid in is a piece of an envelope with Barnes' signature and address–5 Patchen Place, her one bedroom apartment in New York where she lived from 1940 until her death in 1982.
New York: Boni and Liveright, 1923. Publisher's black boards, paper label to spine, no dust jacket; frontispiece and 5 plates with portrait sketches, pp. (xii), 220. An about very good copy. Binding firm, shelfwear and sunning to boards and spine with a few faint stains, crease to paper label and wear to spine tips, owner's signature to front pastedown, faint dampstain to the edges of the first few pages. Protected in a removable archival sleeve.
