Early printing of O'Connor's second book and first of short stories. Lacking the "First Edition" statement to the copyright page but retaining the error on page 125 ("tyring" instead of "trying"). Reviews for A Good Man is Hard to Find to the back panel of the jacket, priced at $3.50 which, per Farmer [A.I.a.1, note to], was the same through the first four printings. Thus, this is a 2nd, 3rd or 4th printing.
New York: Harcourt, Brace & Company, 1955. Original black cloth; pp. 249. A very good copy in a very good, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains tight and sturdy, minor wear to boards, foxing to edges of text block. Offsetting to endpapers, else internally clean. Jacket shows general shelfwear and rubbing, chip to spine crown, closed tear to front panel, foxing to extremities, protected in archival mylar.
