Appointment in Samarra, John O'Hara
First edition, first printing of O'Hara's debut novel, his crowning achievement and one of the Modern Library's 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. First issue, with the errata slip tipped in before the dedication page, in the original first issue dust jacket with "Recent Fiction" to the back panel and priced at $2.50. (Bruccoli A2.1)
New York: Harcourt Brace and Company, 1934. Publisher's original black cloth, spine lettered in black; pp. (vi), 301. A near fine copy in a very good, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains tight, sturdy and square. Minimal shelfwear to boards with traces of faint spotting. Internally clean. The dust jacket remains bright and vivid, spine a touch toned, showing light edgewear with a small closed tear to front panel, an area of rubbing/scratching to lower spine, minor chipping to spine tips, toning and light dust soiling to rear panel. A sheet of thin archival paper has been affixed to the verso of the dust jacket, presumably for reinforcement and protection. An attractive copy, protected in archival mylar.
