East of Eden, John Steinbeck
Limited first edition, signed by Steinbeck. One of just 1500 such copies, 750 of which were intended for private distribution. With the scarce original slipcase, all housed in a custom painted slipcase.
New York: The Viking Press, 1952. Publisher's original green buckram, lettered in gilt, all edges stained terra-cotta; pp. [viii], 602. A near fine or better copy. Binding remains tight, sturdy and square, appearing unread with essentially no wear to boards, corners remain remarkably sharp, a few minor areas of color loss to the stained page edges. Internally clean and fine. The dust jacket shows some general wear and rubbing but is intact and, most importantly, present. Both the book and the original slipcase are housed in a custom painted slipcase. A beautiful presentation.
