Invisible Man, Ralph Ellison
First edition, first printing
First printing of Ellison's masterpiece, winner of the 1952 National Book Award and consistently ranked among the best books of the twentieth century.
New York: Random House, 1952. Binding is tight, sturdy and square. Light age toning to spine with the lettering rubbed, as is common. Small bookshop label to rear pastedown, else internally clean and appearing virtually unread. The unclipped dust jacket, strikingly designed by E. McKnight Kauffer, shows shelfwear and light creasing to extremities, chipping to spine crown, light rubbing to panels and a split along the front panel and front flap joint, which is not particularly noticable in archival mylar. Housed in a gently rubbed custom clamshell case. Overall a very presentable and collectible copy, increasingly scarce in this condition.
