The Life of Samuel Johnson, James Boswell. First Pickering Edition, considered to be one of the better early editions and the first to include a frontispiece of Boswell. Interestingly, this set also includes a frontispiece of Johnson to volume 1, which other copies online make no mention of. London: William Pickering, 1826. Printed by Talboys & Wheeler of Oxford. Complete in four volumes. Rebacked in modern calf, lettered and decorated in gilt. The first two volumes are early calf and are fairly worn, showing rubbing and light cracking. Volumes three and four are tree calf, with some expert repairs, and remain in very presentable condition. Small booksellers label to front pastedown and scattered spotting, else clean with sound bindings. An attractive set.
