Lolita, Vladimir Nabokov
First American edition, first printing of Nabokov's controversial masterpiece, housed in a custom black cloth slipcase. In a second issue dust jacket, identical to the first – correctly priced at $5.00, no later printings indicated – yet with the "Complete and unabridged" statement to the front panel.
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1955. Publisher's original cloth backed grey patterned boards, spine lettered in gilt, red topstain, red endpapers; pp. (iv), 5-319. A near fine copy in an about very good, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains tight, sturdy and square, minimal wear to boards. Internally clean. Jacket shows light shelfwear, rubbing and toning with minor restoration at the bottom of the front panel and along the front spine fold. Presents well in archival mylar.
