Love is Hell, Matt Groening
First Pantheon edition, first printing of Groening's first book, signed prominently to the verso of the front cover – "Matt Groening, 4/23/86," who adds a rare full-length sketch of Snarla the cat standing on Venice Beach, with Groening adding a speech bubble inscription above, "To Michael & Katie." Snarla, a side character in Groening's Life in Hell comic strip, bears a noted resemblance to Lisa Simpson. This early sketch appears almost one year to the date before The Simpson's premiered on The Tracey Ullman Show and more than three-and-a-half years before its premier on Fox on December 17, 1989.
New York: Pantheon Books, 1985. About near fine, with some light creasing to front wrap, a touch of toning and the original bookshop sticker to rear wrap.
