Limited, numbered first edition of one of the best Chagall monographs. Limited to 100 copies signed by Chagall to the colophon, with an original etching numbered in pencil, of which this is number 31. The monograph features over 1,250 illustrations, including 53 mounted color plates, notes, a chronology, a classified catalog, a bibliography, a list of exhibitions and an index. An exhaustive, and very important, work on the master artist, rare in the limited edition.

The book is housed in the original red cloth slipcase, the etching is housed in the original matching red cloth portfolio. The book and jacket are in near fine condition, showing perhaps just a touch of shelfwear, with the jacket now protected in archival mylar. The etching is in fine condition. Slipcases show some wear, with bumped corners, a few light scratches and fraying to extremities, with the spine of the portfolio case lifting. The original tissue protector for the etching is present, but toned and creased. Very scarce.
