First American edition, and first edition in English, limited to 600 copies signed and numbered by the artist, of which this is number 107. The longest and best-selling of Masereel's wordless novels, consisting of 176 captionless woodcut prints, My Book of Hours tells of the experiences of an early 20-century everyman in a modern city. An important precursor to the graphic novel.
Self-published: New York, 1922. Original printed paper boards; unpaginated. In very good condition. Binding remains tight, sturdy and square. Light wear and rubbin to boards, with a minor scratch to top edge of text block. Owner's bookplate to verso of front board, else internally clean. Scarce, particularly in this condition. Protected in a removable archival sleeve.
