First American edition, second printing of Barnes' classic novel of lesbian love. Laid in is a piece of blue envelope with Barnes' signature and address: 'D. Barnes 60 Old Church St Chelsea London SW3' with the date of 1937 penciled in to the lower left corner.

New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1937. Publisher's blue cloth with gilt titles to spine, original unclipped dust jacket; pp. (viii), 211. Binding sturdy, minor shelfwear to boards with a bit of dust soiling, gilt titles faded, foxing to edge of text block. Jacket shows some wear with chipping around the extremities, areas of loss along joints, spine toned, stray pen mark to front, protected in archival mylar.
