Notes of a Dirty Old Man, Charles Bukowski
First edition, signed and inscribed with a doodle to poet Harold Norse

North Hollywood, CA: Essex House, 1969. Inscribed on the first page to Norse: "For Hal Norse - poet and human, against all and any odds. Your beer-drunk friend, etc. - Charles Bukowski  2-24-69." Accompanying the inscription are Bukowski's drawings of a bird, the sun, and a bottle.  Norse's ownership signature is on the verso of the front wrap. Original wraps in near fine condition, with light general wear to wraps. Bukowski and Norse frequently corresponded beginning in the mid-1960s and it was Norse that recommended Bukowski to Penguin Press for their Modern Poets Series, which was then his highest-profile appearance and released in 1969. Bukowski and Norse didn't meet in person until January of 1969, thus this inscription from February 24 appears less than two months after they officially met and in the same year as Bukowski's Modern Poets appearance. Very scarce and with an incredible inscription from an early and important point in Bukowski's career.
