On the Road, Jack Kerouac
First U.K. edition, first printing of Kerouac's masterpiece and a defining work of the postwar Beat and counterculture generations. The iconic dust jacket, designed by Len Deighton, is the first issue with Kerouac's photo to the rear flap.
London: Andre Deutsch, 1958. Original red cloth with gilt-stamped spine, pictorial dust jacket. Binding is tight and sturdy, slight crease to spine with a small blemish, traces of foxing to edges of text block, light offestting to endpapers with owner's name to front free endpaper, else internally clean. The unclipped jacket shows a bit of soiling, some general shelfwear, chipping around the spine tips and a few closed tears to edges, protected in archival mylar. Overall, a very good or better copy in a very good dust jacket.
