One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Ken Kesey
First edition, first printing of Kesey's first novel, a counterculture classic and basis for the acclaimed 1975 of the same name. Signed and inscribed by Kesey to the flyleaf with a bold, multicolored marker drawing. A first issue book, with "that fool Red Cross woman" on p. 9, lines 12-13; and with "It's the plump Red Cross woman named Gwen-doe-lin, with the blond hair the patients are always arguing about...." on pp. 85-86. The jacket is second state, lacking the Kerouac blurb to front panel, original to the book as there's traces of Kesey's marker to the front flap.
New York: The Viking Press, 1952. Publisher's original green cloth, spine lettered in yellow; pp. (viii), 311. A very good copy in a very good, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains tight, sturdy and square. Minimal shelfwear to boards with a few minor stains to cloth. Internally clean. Jacket shows light general shelfwear and rubbing, sunning and a faint vertical crease to spine, pen notation to verso. Presents well in archival mylar.
