Opium: The Diary of an Addict, Jean Cocteau
First UK edition, first printing. London: George Allen & Unwin Ltd., 1933. With illustrations by Cocteau, supposedly created while under the influence of opium, this classic work is a fragmented and hypnotic collection of maxims, stories and reflections, many of them focusing on the drug and its effects. A very good copy in a good or better unclipped dust jacket. Binding is sturdy, with a lean to spine, some toning to boards. Light scattered foxing internally and to foredge. Jacket shows some minor chipping along extremities, split between front panel and flap, as well as between spine and back panel, spine toned and some scattered light soiling, protected in archival mylar. Scarce.
