Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Paulo Friere
First American edition, first printing, and the first edition in English of one of the foundational texts of critical pedagogy. Using a Marxist lens to explore the relationship between education and oppression, Friere argues that traditional forms of education often perpetuate oppression by presenting knowledge in a one-dimensional, banking approach that fails to engage students critically and instead reinforces the status quo. Freire argues for a new form of education that is dialogical and liberatory, one that empowers students to critically reflect on and transform their reality.
