Trade edition of Prior's most ambitious work, a great success which allowed him to live comfortably for the rest of his life. With a full page engraved frontispiece, large and finely engraved head, tail and initial pieces throughout. Trade edition identified by the inner margin measuring 1.25" (Wright, 1952).
London: Printed for Jacob Tonson, 1718. Folio (pages approx. 8.5" x 13.6"), bound in period paneled calf, rebacked to style with 6 raised bands ruled in blind, date at foot in gilt, spine labels lettered and ruled in gilt; new endpapers, pp. frontispiece, [xl], 506, [6]. Binding firm, covers show wear and rubbing with loss to original leather, a bit of discoloration to spine, frontispiece mounted, two bookseller entries removed from flyleaf, scattered staining and tears (repaired with tape), a few lines drawn in margins, signature of "Richard Browne of Norwich" at the end of the subscribers list.
