First edition, first printing of du Maurier's Gothic classic, winner of the National Book Award for Fiction in 1938 and a bestseller that has never gone out of print. Basis for numerous adaptations for stage and screen, including a 1939 play by du Maurier herself, the film Rebecca (1940), directed by Alfred Hitchcock, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and the 2020 remake directed by Ben Wheatley for Netflix.

London: Victor Gollancz, 1938. Publisher's original black cloth, upper board and spine stamped in gilt; pp. 446. A near fine copy in an about very good dust jacket. Binding remains tight and sturdy, minimal wear to boards. Internally clean and fine, appearing unread. The notoriously fragile dust jacket remains bright, with uneven loss to lower corner of front panel and bottom of rear panel, a touch of fading to spine and panels. Two small closed tears to top of front panel, with unnecessary tape reinforcements to verso. Faint cup ring, smudge and light abrasion to front panel. Overall, a quite presentable copy protected in archival mylar.
