Stamp Help Out! Lenny Bruce
First edition, second issue of Bruce's first book, a self-published collection of humorous stories, photographs, skits and self-parody that he sold at concerts and events. Contents include the long self-parodying story "The Pot Smokers," in which Bruce combines photos (mainly of himself) and captions documenting marijuana use in the typical misinformed hysterics of the time. Much of the original print run was consigned to Lawrence Ferlinghetti's City Lights Bookstore, but following his arrests for obscenity he instructed Lawrence to destroy the remaining copies and then reprinted the book with the profanities struck through.
[n.p]: Self-published, circa 1961. Original wraps, pp. 52. About very good, with some staining to wrappers and a few scattered instances of foxing to the interior. Scarce.
