First edition, first printing of this classic account of the 1953 British conquest of Everest, signed by Edmund Hillary to the title page, who provided a riveting account of the summit in Chapter 16 – "The Summit."

London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1953. Publisher's original blue cloth with gilt titles to spine, color frontispiece, 7 colored plates and 48 half-tone plates with many in-text illustrations; pp. xx, 300. A very good or better copy in a very good, unclipped dust jacket. Binding sturdy, light shelfwear to boards, minor bump to top edge of text block. Owner's name and contemporary date to flyleaf with a touch of offsetting to endpapers, else internally clean. Jacket shows light shelfwear and rubbing with a couple minor chips, light crease to front panel, sticker removed from price on front flap. Protected in archival mylar.
