The Evolution of Worlds, Percival Lowell

First edition, second printing of Lowell's last published book, an influential astronomical treatise in which he explores planetary formation and the fate of celestial bodies. Lowell, founder of the Lowell Observatory in Arizona, was a pioneering figure in early planetary astronomy, best remembered for his studies of Mars and for initiating the search that led to the discovery of Pluto.

New York: The Macmillan Company, 1910. Publisher's original red cloth boards, lettered and ruled in gilt; pp. xiii, [1], 262, [2 ads]. With 12 plates and numerous in text illustrations and diagrams. A very good copy. Binding remains firm and square, over opened just a touch at a few points. Minor shelfwear to boards, front plate (Saturn) loose, scattered instances of toning/offsetting from notes being left in the pages, else internally clean.
