Second printing of Hammett's fourth novel, basis for two film adaptations and Orson Welles' 1939 radio adaptation. In a Grosset & Dunlap reprint jacket replicating the original pictorial cover with red titles instead of green.
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1931. A very good copy in a fair to good dust jacket. Binding is tight, sturdy and square. Orange boards remain bright and vivid with minimal wear. Scattered foxing to edge of text bock. Owner's name to front pastedown with offsetting to pastedowns and endpapers, small stain to second rear blank, a few scattered smudges internally. A nice copy. Jacket shows wear and rubbing with chipping to extremities, an area of loss to front panel, price removed from front flap, protected in archival mylar.
