The fifth American edition from the last London edition, 1836 printing. Complete in four volumes. New York: J. and J. Harper, 1936. Full calf, five spine compartments with raised bands, marbled page edges with marbled endpapers. Reynolds portrait as frontispiece to volume one, the other volumes have fold-out maps. In generally good condition, wear to leather boards with a few small tears around spine tips, rear board of volume one is loose but still attached, spine label missing from volume four, bindings are sturdy. Internally, a bookplate to verso of front board at volume one, small shelving label in each volume, contemporary ownership signature to the second blank leaf in each volume, scattered foxing throughout. Uncommon.
