The Hound of Death and Other Stories, Agatha Christie

First edition, first printing of Christie's uncommon collection of macabre tales, notable for the first appearance in book form of her short story "The Witness for the Prosecution," for which Christie subsequently wrote an award-winning play that was later adapted to film and television. Unlike her detective fiction, this collection features supernatural elements and was published by Odhams, rather than Collins Crime Club, and was not available in shops, being only obtainable by collecting coupons found in the publisher’s weekly magazine, The Passing Show. Scarce in the original dust jacket.

London: Odhams Press Limited, 1933. Publisher's original maroon cloth, spine stamped in gilt; pp. 247. An about very good copy in a like, price-clipped dust jacket. Binding sturdy, minimal wear to boards with uneven fading to boards and spine, gilt lettering faded. Foxing to edges of text block and scattered internally, else no markings. The dust jacket remains bright and vivid showing light general shelfwear with a few small tears, tape reinforcements to verso. A presentable copy of this scarce title, protected in archival mylar.
