The King in Yellow, Robert W. Chambers

First edition, first printing of "one of the most important works of supernatural horror between Edgar Allan Poe and modern horror fiction" (Bleiler, Supernatural Fiction Writers, p. 739). Inscribed on the flyleaf by Pulitzer Prize winning novelist Ellen Glasgow to her sister and closest friend: "Rebe Gordon Glasgow / from Ellen Glasgow / July 1896."

Chicago & New York: F. Tennyson Neely, 1895. Original pale green cloth stamped in dark brown with the lizard image for Neely's Prismatic Library to upper cover, top edge gilt, title page dated 1895, 1 page advertisement for Chambers' In the Quarter at p. 318. A very good copy. Binding is sturdy and lightly cracked about halfway through, light shelfwear to boards with minor fraying at extremities, rubbing to boards primarily at the spine, small bump to rear bottom corner. Internally quite clean, with a closed tear to title page. A nice copy, protected in a removable acetate jacket.
