In the first issue jacket priced at $2.50. "Poetic mood pieces, occasionally satirical and moralistic, but often haunting in their power. An undeniable classic" (Pringle, 1995).

New York: Doubleday and Company, 1950. Publisher's original pale green cloth, spine lettered in burgundy; pp. 222. An about very good copy in a very good, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains firm, boards slightly bowed, scattered light spotting to boards and foxing to text block edges. Offsetting to endpapers, else internally clean. Jacket remains vibrant, showing just light general shelfwear and rubbing. Presents well in archival mylar.
