First edition, first issue, with "obedient" at the end of the last line of page 6 and 5 pages of advertisements at end. First performed on 14 February 1732 at the Royal Theatre, Fielding's play satirizes the moral corruption and hypocrisy of the upper class in 18th century England.

London: J. Watts, 1732. Bound in quarter blue morocco over marbled boards, spine titles in gilt; pp. (viii), 83 + ads. Boards lightly bowed, mild wear, spine toned. Scattered foxing and toning to pages, else quite clean.
