The Old Man and the Sea, Ernest Hemingway

First edition, first printing of Hemingway's classic novella, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the only work explicitly mentioned when Hemingway was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. With the Scribner's seal and "A" present to the copyright page in the first issue dust jacket priced at $3.00 (Hanneman, A24A).

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1952. Publisher's original blue cloth, spine lettered in silver; pp. 140. A good or better copy in an about very good, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains sturdy with a slight lean, minor wear to boards with scattered toning and discoloration, spine toned. Owner's signature to front pastedown, else internally clean with no markings. Oddly, pages 63-79 have been bound in the incorrect order due to a production error. The dust jacket remains bright and vivid, showing light shelfwear with chipping to extemities, a few spots of loss along flap and spine folds, a couple faint stains to front panel, protected in archival mylar.
