The Selfish Gene, Richard Dawkins
First UK edition, first printing of Dawkins' groundbreaking work, cited by a 2017 Royal Society Poll as the most influential science book of all time, and which introduced the term "meme" as a unit of cultural evolution. The true first, with 1976 listed on both the title and copyright page, no mention of New York to title page, and no further printings indicated.
Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1976. Publisher's original black cloth, spine lettered in gilt; pp. xi, [1], 224. An about near fine copy in a near fine, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains sturdy with a few bumps to boards, scattered foxing to edges of text block. Brief inscription to flyleaf, else internally clean. Jacket shows light edgewear with rubbing along the spine crease. A nice copy, protected in archival mylar.
