The Writings of Thomas Hardy in Prose and Verse

Signed Autograph Edition of the works of Thomas Hardy, limited to 153 copies signed by Hardy in volume 1, of which this is number 137.  Per the Hardy, "This is the Authorized and Definitive Edition of my books" and is considered among the scarcest of all the signed limited editions by early 20th century authors. Additionally signed by the publisher on the limitation page. Complete in 20 volumes and with the original dust jackets.

New York and London: Harper & Brothers, 1915. Publisher's original green buckram with printed paper spine labels; photogravure frontispieces and plates, maps, lettered tissue guards, title pages printed in red, blue, black and gold, extra spine labels tipped in to the front of each volume. Complete in 20 volumes and with the original plain paper dust jackets with printed spine labels. Near fine or better volumes in about very good dust jackets. Bindings remain tight, sturdy and square with a few volumes negligibly overopened at points. Minimal shelfwear to boards, internally quite clean with a few instances of thumb soiling and the subscriber's name erased from the limitation page. Jackets show light shelfwear with a few closed tears and chips, scattered minor soiling, volume jacket covered with tape. An attractive set, scarce.
