Deluxe edition of this important historical tribute to California with each volume signed by California pioneers, including members of the Donner Party, the Pony Express rider who carried to California President Lincoln's first message to Congress, engineer George Chaffey, many "Covered Wagon Babies" (children born on the trail to California in 1848, 1849, and in the 1850s), and many others. Limited to 387 numbered sets of the Deluxe edition specially for subscribers, of which this set is number 50.
Los Angeles, CA: Powell Publishing Company, 1928-1930. Original full brown morocco, stamped in gilt with illustrations of California grizzly bears and mission bells, raised spine bands, two leather spine labels to each volume, top edges gilt, other edges untrimmed, marbled endpapers. Overall, a very good set. All bindings are tight and sturdy. Shelfwear and rubbing mostly limited to the spines, with the spine labels chipped and worn. Internally clean and free of markings.
