My Book of Hours, 167 Designs Engraved on Wood by Frans Masereel

First American edition, and first edition in English, limited to 600 copies signed and numbered by the artist, this copy being signed but unnumbered. The longest and best-selling of Masereel's wordless novels, consisting of 176 captionless woodcut prints, My Book of Hours tells of the experiences of an early 20-century everyman in a modern city. An important precursor to the graphic novel. Housed in a custom printed dust jacket and black slipcase.

Self-published: New York, 1922. Original printed paper boards; unpaginated. An about very good copy. Binding remains sturdy and square with a crease to spine, light general shelfwear and rubbing to boards with some toning and dust soiling. Scattered light foxing to endpapers, else internally clean. The custom jacket is in nice shape but for a closed tear to near spine crown. A nice copy, scarce.
