First edition, first printing of Watts' modern classic, a history and philosophical explication of Zen Buddhism, “one of the most precious gifts of Asia to the world." 

New York: Pantheon Books, 1957. Publisher's original black cloth, lettered in gilt; pp. xvii, 236, [2]. A very good or better copy in a very good, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains tight and sturdy with a trace of a backward lean, light rubbing to boards. Offsetting to front endpaper, owner's name to flyleaf, else internally clean. Jacket shows light general shelfwear and rubbing, toning to spine. A nice copy, protected in archival mylar.
